Local Weather:  Set at an elevation of about 3,000 feet, the temperature in the Camino/Apple Hill area averages about 8 degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley to the west and about 10 degrees warmer than the Lake Tahoe Basin to the east.  Most precipitation falls between late fall and early spring, and light to moderate snowfall is typical during the coldest winter months.  The associated link is provided by the National Weather Service, with a forecast point six miles east of Placerville.

Apple Hill Grower's Association:  The Apple Hill Grower's Association is a collection of about 60 small farms and vineyards set among rolling hills and patches of forest land in the Camino area.  The group sponsors the Apple Hill harvest season from Labor Day to Christmas each year, a four-month celebration of freshly grown food, country living, and family fun.

Golf Courses:  There are two golf courses in the Camino area.  The Camino Heights Golf Course is a nine-hole course laid out greenbelt-style among the homes of Camino Heights.  The Apple Mountain Golf Course is a more challenging eighteen-hole course with velvety fairways laid among wooded thickets and evergreens.

Iowa Hill Hydroelectric Project:  The Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD) is proposing to construct a hydroelectric water storage reservoir atop Iowa Hill, near the rim of the American River Canyon north of Camino.  Most residents, including myself, oppose it.
