City of Placerville:  First known as Dry Diggings, and then Hangtown, Placerville has a colorful history that began with the discovery of gold in the nearby town of Coloma.  Today, Placerville is the El Dorado County seat and the largest metropolitan area between the Sacramento suburbs to the west and the City of South Lake Tahoe to the east.  It retains its historical ambience in its core areas, especially along Main Street and the residential areas north and south of Main Street.

Placerville Downtown Association:  The Placerville Downtown Association is an organization of merchants who operate businesses in Placerville's historic downtown area.  Except for motorized vehicles (and a few other modern-day indulgences), this area is much like it was 100 years ago.

Marshall Gold Discovery State Park:  One of the most historically significant sites in California, Marshall Gold Discovery State Park is located in Coloma, about 10 miles northwest of Placerville.

Highway 50 Wagon Train:  Every year in June, wagon train riders dressed in period costume make a seven day trek from Lake Tahoe to Placerville.  If you're particularly adventurous and hardy (maybe foolhardy), you can sign up to ride along.
